• Where is Maker Heights ?
  Maker Heights is situated on the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall.Rame Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) which contains the 800 acre Mount Edgcumbe Park, one of the most beautiful in England, as well as the Maker Heights, Rame Head itself and the picturesque villages of Kingsand and Cawsand.Sitting above the villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, the 18th century fortifications of Maker Heights then the land drops away through woodland to the tidal expanse of Millbrook Lake.
  
• Who are Rame Conservation Trust (RCT) ?
  RCT is a Charitable Trust which was established to preserve for the benefit of the people of the Rame Peninsula and of the nation at large, the historical, architectural and constructional heritage that exists in and around Maker Heights and the Rame Peninsula.The Rame Conservation Trust (RCT) is a local charity with a remit to preserve for the benefit of the people of the Rame Peninsula and of the nation at large, the historical, architectural and constructional heritage that exists in and around Maker Heights and the Rame Peninsula. 
  
• What is the significance of Maker Heights ?
  Those that have visited the site in previous years already know the historical significance of this widespread and natural site. RCT cares for the heritage assets at Maker Heights, including 12 hectares of rare unimproved grassland, four Scheduled Ancient Monuments and the impressive Grade II* Listed Barrack Block.  These assets are all vital components of the Historic Landscape and are set in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Rame Head AONB). The heritage assets at Maker Heights are unique, original and, at the present time, largely unaltered. Consequently, Maker Heights is of international and national importance, and of outstanding significance.
  
• But, it’s not just about buildings ?
  Maker Heights has a very strong and varied social history. It has undergone a number of uses over the past 200 years. The primary focus of the project is capturing the rich and diverse stories of Maker that exist in living memory. These include stories of attending Maker Camp as a child for a school holiday – this scheme was originally set up by Nancy Astor and the Virginia House Settlement in the 1920s for ‘deprived city children’ and continued through to the early 1980s.More recent history includes the stories of hundreds of holiday makers, swell as musicians who have played at Maker Heights, and large numbers of artists who have have studios at the site. …… More Maker Memories
